Retinal Detachment

Postby Sajid Imran » Wed Nov 16, 2016 11:55 am

Dear sir/ madam,

Retinal detachment occurred to me in 1997. I got it treated back then by Dr. Mukhtiar in Karachi. The vision in the eye is somewhat distorted & weak. I want to have opinion on that from a doctor who has this peculiar specialization. I live in Peshawar. Do you have any centre here for preliminary investigation? Also guide me if you donot have a centre in Peshawar.

regards,
Sajid Imran.

Dear Mr. Nasir
I can understand your feelings and wish that your daughter could be successfully treated soon. In general, surgery of Retinal Detachment depends on the type of detachment, its cause, extent and duration. Apparently, in this case the cause seems to be the endstage retinopathy of prematurity. You should get an opinion from the vitreoretina department about the prospects of surgical intervention in your daughters case. This can only be done, when a vitreoretina specialist thoroughly examines the eye. I hope, this reply is useful to you and might have cleared some of the questions in your mind.

sir ,i have visited alshifa vitreo retinal department and your senior dr.nusrat and one other specialist examine my daughter 's eye.they told us that there is no treatment of retinal deattachment of right eye.if we do surgery there is very less chance of recovery of vision. the left eye has ROP at stage zero. now sir please guide me what we will do for our daughter s right eye which is completely blind.hopeless ness is a sin.and i believe that there should be some way.i am so worried due to delay in treatment procedure.retinal buckling, cryotherapy and laser surgery are the latest techniques performed in alshifa hospital.please do any favour and help to start the possible treatment soon..

Dear Mr. Nasir
You are right that Vitreo retinal procedures are being performed in Al-Shifa Trust, but unfortunately, in some cases, surgery is unlikely to be beneficial because of fibrotic changes in retina. Now, on this forum, we can just provide you guidance, rest you have to discuss the case with the doctor who examines the eye
